The project stems from the identified lack of high-quality public space in the surrounding area — places for the local population to meet and gather, providing a counterpoint to the built density of central Loures.
In response, this mixed-use building, with retail at ground level, is conceived to define and protect a new landscaped public square, partially populated by trees that extend outwards, creating shaded areas and bringing a more welcoming character to this part of the city. Ultimately, it is conceived as a place where urban life can unfold spontaneously, flowing between the use of local services and casual encounters in a café or beneath the shade of a tree.
The U-shaped volume that defines the square gives rise to several building wings extending in different directions towards the surrounding urban fabric, establishing connections and/or continuities with future buildings that may be constructed nearby. On the upper floors, the 225 apartments alternate between orientations that celebrate the central square and views towards the surrounding city of Loures.
