Built in the 19th century, the chalet of the former Queen Maria Pia of Savoy is one of Monte Estoril’s most emblematic buildings. Set within its historic urban fabric, close to the coastline, it is surrounded by other buildings of equal significance.
The project involves the rehabilitation of the chalet, which remains the dominant element structuring the site and its outward views, alongside the construction of two new residential buildings on the same plot.
The two new buildings are conceived as detached volumes that integrate harmoniously with the surrounding urban fabric through their scale, height, positioning and materiality. Their placement within the plot and restrained height respond to the importance of preserving the existing coastal views.
As a singular presence, the chalet retains and reinforces its prominence within the site. Its rehabilitation is guided by the preservation and enhancement of its most significant architectural and decorative elements, while adapting the building to contemporary requirements of safety and comfort.
Unifying the entire ensemble, the project also proposes a completely renewed garden, conceived as a podium from which exceptional views over Cascais Bay can be experienced.
